Dear brothers and sisters we have concluded a successful fundraiser for the Galkacyo Medical Center (GMC) held @ ISBCC Masjid in Roxbury. The fundraiser which is intended to strengthen the daily routine work of the GMC was proudly participated by Somali people living in Boston, the community organizations, and the religious leaders and the youth.
Dr. Abdulqadir Mohamud Jama, the founder and the CEO of the GMC has shared the community an everlasting words of doctoral wisdom and vividly presented images that will always be in the minds of those attended the gathering. It was generally an evening of leadership, generosity, and community participation and unity.
The main focus and the purpose of the gathering was to re-establish the victimized community of Somalia back on its feet again. The only agenda reminded us of unity and the establishment of the institutions that run a country where a civilian helps another civilian.
A female speaker of the gathering, Dr. Sirad, who represented the Somali women in Boston and especially those in the event said "The main cell of the community is the mother, and if the mothers do not receive the medical attention when they needed the family is in chaos status." She continued saying, "There aresome health related problems that is only for women, for example in Somalia there is huge problem that comes when the girl becomes a victim of genital mutilation."
Dr. Sirad mentioned a lot of other things including rape and pregnancy related problems. Dr. Sirad urged the Somali community as whole and the attendees in particular, to support events that promote health and establish health facilities and institutions.
Dr. Abdulqadir Mohamud, who was the founder of the GMC and the man who have done tremendously for this cause so much, presented statistical data and actual pictures that will stay our minds forever. He showed a lot of young women, and children that had medical need forsurgeries and operations because they suffered major failures among them digestive system diseases, respiratory diseases and cardiovascular system diseases.
What was astonishing was that he said that there were shortage of medical practitioners, doctors, nurses and medical assistants. For that reason he said that they have a high tech machines used for kidney failures, but "who is the doctor?" to use it he replied. To those of us who understand the problems of Somalia and realize that they must take part in re-establishing the community again please make sure you put the efforts in yourselves and make sure you do something for the sake of your community.
I will end with one point, the fundraiser was a successful one and there were a very good people who contributed the success. Please we ask you in taking part of the Cure and making GMC a better place that runs for the common good.
